Blacky Komani joins Footballs For FunBlacky Komani has been appointed Chief Executive of Footballs For Fun® in South Africa.
John Haycock, founder and MD, said: ‘Footballs For Fun has been running for 18 months and we needed to take a big step forward, with leadership based in South Africa, venue for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Komani's experience and contacts enable us to make this leap. As the world's attention turns towards South Africa during the current tournament in Germany, he is an ideal partner for us.'
Blacky Komani said that this enterprise neatly summed up the spirit of ubuntu, the Nguni word for the spirit of humanity or fellow feeling. ‘It is all about the difference a venture like this will make to these kids, some of whom have been forgotten by the society. I appeal to the travel industry to grab the opportunity to give back something positive to communities they derive income from, and support this initiative', said Komani. ‘A football is a gift of fun, of life; charities throughout Africa will benefit, with £2 per ball going to help children with malaria, polio, TB; victims of drug abuse, those affected or infected by Aids/HIV; and where necessary, to provide fresh drinking water.'
Haycock summed up the appointment by saying that Komani's contacts, both in tourism and in African business, will be invaluable and make a real difference to children throughout Africa.
